The Vikings are off to a 3-6 start to the 2021-22 season, still, coach Amy Hayward sees a much-improved squad over past years take the court each time out.
Inglemoor was looking to snap a two-game skid when Newport came calling Tuesday night, Oct. 5. The team played well in all three sets, but couldn’t close any of them out and dropped the match 3-0.
The initial set was close after the first 20 points were posted on the scoreboard, with the Vikings trailing 11-9. But the Knights caught fire and went on a 14-5 run to win it 25-14.
Inglemoor knotted it 1-1 early in the second set, but it was all Newport after that as the visitors from Bellevue kicked it into high gear and blew past the Vikings, 25-12.
The third set was by far the most competitive of the match. The Knights went up top 12-6, but Inglemoor came roaring back going on an 8-2 run to level it 14-14. Newport edged back out front 18-15 and then went on to win it 25-20 to complete the shutout win.
The loss dropped Inglemoor two 2-5 in conference action and 3-6 overall.
